Project Playhouse
This past weekend, we had the opportunity to be part of something pretty special at the Regina Spring Home Show.
Alongside the team at Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan and our partners at Fries Tallman, we took part in the Project Playhouse build, an initiative that brings local organizations together to design and construct custom playhouses that are later auctioned off to support families in our community.
Our Take: Firefighters In Training 🔥
Our goal was to create something kids could step into and let their imagination take over. We designed our playhouse to look and feel like a firetruck, with a focus on making it as interactive as possible. It featured checkered chrome detailing, a mobile steering wheel, sensory fidget boards, and a small climbing wall. There was also a balcony up top with a functional hose sprayer, along with LED flood lighting, chrome grab bars, and an interior bench for storing all the wonderful bits & bobs collected during various adventures!
Weekend Highlights
Over the course of the weekend, attendees had the opportunity to test-drive the builds, cast their votes, and support a cause that goes well beyond the show floor.
We even had a few of the city’s top quality control inspectors stop by to make sure everything was up to standard. 😉
Thanks to everyone’s support, this year’s event raised $16,000 to help Habitat continue their work providing safe, affordable housing for families across Saskatchewan.
We were honoured to have our playhouse recognized with both the People’s Choice Award and Most Sustainable Build, the latter using materials sourced from the Habitat ReStore.
The Teams Behind It All
This project only happens because of the people behind it…
Congratulations to our fellow playhouse builders. There was plenty of friendly banter during the leadup and throughout the weekend, and seeing the creativity come together was super fun to watch!
We want to recognize the local businesses who supported our build, including Sherwin-Williams, Dulux Paint, Capital Fire, Restore Regina, JRs Welding, KalTire, Best Buy Auto Parts and the Regina Fire Fighters – plus a lot of time, effort and brainstorming from our own team!
And of course, credit to the team at Habitat for organizing the event, to Fries Tallman for being great partners throughout the build, and to everyone who stopped by, voted, and supported the initiative.
